Playgrounds in North Tyneside – Holmlands Playsite

This is the first of our 2015 local playground challenge play sites. Holmlands Playsite is in a small housing development, not too far from North Shields centre.

It is a fab little park for toddlers. It’s a small fenced area, with a gate that locks, so once you’re in you can be sure your little one is safe to run around without you helicoptering over them too much!

There are two swings, which are the kind most suitable for babies and toddlers, so older preschoolers would need to busy themselves on the other equipment.
James absolutely loves swings. He giggles and giggles as you push him higher and higher. The people who live in the houses near by will be pleased that these swings don’t squeak! We spotted one piece of rubbish in a bush near the swings. James asked me what it was, and I told him the wind must have blown the packet into the bush. He replied, “Silly wind! Packet go in bin, not bush! Silly wind!”

There is a proper staircase leading up to the slide, which some playgrounds don’t have, so I think this is a nice park, especially for younger toddlers. James ignored the slide, and immediately clambered onto the rope bridge; I don’t think he’s ever gone across a rope bridge before, but he managed expertly!

There’s a little ‘king of the castle’ area at the other side of the rope bridge.

James climbed down the ladder (though there is also a fireman’s pole) and ran over to the sea lion. The sea lion is one of three bouncy animals.
I like it – it’s painted with whiskers!

Under the bouncy animals the floor is covered with wood chippings. Elsewhere the ground has bouncy Tarmac or not-muddy-at-all grass.

All in all, this is a really nice park. There are two benches and some free play space. I like that it’s graffiti-free too.

We’ll be back, especially when we need a run around near to North Shields town centre.

Ooh is that the one down the road from the new estate? It looks scary with a slide that ends well before the ground!!
