I was asked if we would like to review a height chart by Inkmill Vinyl, and as we had decorated the boys’ bedroom and had to remove our previous giraffe height chart, of course I said yes! I love how easy vinyl is to apply and remove, and it looks so good while it’s up. Inkmill have offered one lucky reader the chance to win a height chart of your own, worth up to £50.
Inkmill Vinyl height chart review
From the many vivid designs available on the Inkmill website, I chose a lighthouse to measure the boys against. I could have chosen an Eiffel Tower (and I nearly did), or a giraffe, or many other designs. Actually if you don’t fancy any of the shapes on the website, or if you have something else in mind, you can actually either buy a sheet of vinyl to cut yourself, or upload your own image to be cut by Inkmill. So you can personalise your walls exactly how you like them. The designs are available in a range of colours, and to suit a variety of walls, mirrors, or windows. If the design you fancy is too big, then you can alter the size, too!
Here’s our lighthouse on the wall. I think it looks spectacular; really striking and suits the space.
Apologies to everyone who is twitching to tidy up that bookcase. I am too!
Immediately after Rob finished smoothing the vinyl on the wall, the boys were queueing up to be measured. “Me first,” shouted James, followed closely by Noah, “No, me! Me!”
Hanging the Inkmill Vinyl Height Chart
Hanging the height chart was really easy. I just stood back and watched. See, easy! Haha, well, I did read the instructions and tell Rob how to do it, so I had a large part to play in the successful positioning and placement.
The first thing you do is hang the whole piece with the image looking out, and the backing paper against the wall. Secure it to the wall with masking tape, and then tip the sheet upside down. (I should let you know that we cut the corner off as it was touching the bookcase and wasn’t needed as no vinyl was underneath that section).
Then you pull the backing sheet off, enough to expose the vinyl, and stick it on the wall. Using the squeegee provided, you smooth out any air bubbles, before pulling the backing sheet off as you move down the wall.
And then finally slide the front cover off to expose the beautiful vinyl underneath. I think it looks so good. The sun shines in the boys bedroom right on this spot, but I know that it will resist fading, and last a really long time. Keep an eye on my Instagram account and you’ll see the boys growing from time to time.
One thing that is not quite right with our height chart is that it’s supposed to start from the floor, but we have 18cm high skirting boards. Maybe Inkmill could make a version of the lighthouse with rocks at the bottom, which could be cut off if need be, and so the height chart would measure properly. We now have to add 18 cm to whatever the boys measure on the chart. A minor issue, and the chart is still operational as we’ll still be able to observe growth!
