Cycling with kids – SJ Works First Aid Kit

Cycling with kids – SJ Works First Aid Kit

I was asked recently to try an SJ Works first aid kit for cycling. A first aid kit is a product you don’t ever really want to use but is a really useful thing to have. I received two products for the purpose of this review: a First Aid kit that slips into my day bag, and a first aid kit that holds a smartphone on the crossbar of a bike.

The first little first aid kit by SJ Works is really handy. The SJ stands for Super Joan, after the company founder, in case you were wondering. It is in a waterproof box, is lightweight and small enough to throw in the bag you’re taking out for the day.

What’s in the box?

—1pc Hardcase Plastic box
—1pc American Red Cross First Aid Guide
—1pc Medical Grade Vinyl Gloves – Large 2PCS/PK
—-6pcs Antiseptic Towelettes
—3pcs Butterfly Wound Closures
—5pcs Easy Access Bandage 3*1″
—5pcs Easy Access Bandage 3/4*3″
—5pcs Junior Easy Access Bandage 3/8×1.5″
—5pcs Adhesive Spot Bandage 7/8″x7/8″
—2pcs Sterile Non-Adherent Pads 2″x3″
—2pcs Sterile Non-woven sponges2″x2″2pcs/pk 4ply
—1pcs First Aid Tape Roll 1/2″x10yds.
—1pcs Pressure Bandages 2″x2″

I know that this will come in handy, I just have to keep it somewhat a secret from the boys; if they find out I’ve got a box of plasters, I won’t have many left very soon after their discovery! They make up injuries so they can have a plaster!

We love to ride our bikes along the coast, or down the waggonways in North Tyneside. We have a little trailer connected to Rob’s bike, and we pop the boys in there if we’re going on long rides. Sometimes I still get a little one in the seat on the back of my bike even if we have got the trailer. James hops up, for old time’s sake, I think. Ignore the fact I’m not wearing a helmet, please – this photo was taken more than 3 years ago – I know better now (and I did then).

During the weekend the boys and I often go to do a bit of shopping on our cycles or ride to look at the steam train at the nearby Stephenson Museum. James trundles along on his police bike, while Noah rides in the child seat on my bike.

However Noah’s favourite thing is to ride his balance bike. He scoots along on there so quickly that I have to run to keep up!

We make sure they’re safe by wearing helmets, and now we’re prepared by having a first aid kit in case of small cuts or grazes.

The first aid kit sits neatly on the crossbar of my bike. It was very easy to attach using the hook and loop fabric. I love the fact that I can slip my phone inside and the touchscreen is still functional. SJ Works have thought of everything because you also get a headphone extension cable included in the bag. You can attach it to the phone and then pass it through the holes in the bag – the holes are made in what feels like neoprene, so I would think that they don’t compromise the waterproofing of the bag.
