Playing in the park in the winter and exploring frosty leaves

We went for a run around in the park while Rob went to mend a fence. The sun was setting, and it was really cold! It was the kind of day when the sun just hasn’t managed to warm the ground, so frost has lain all day.

James was excited to be in the park, anyway. He tried to blow the propeller around; he said it was just like a windmill, and I agree.

The little giraffe slide was all icy, which was strange and new. Usually slides are just dirty, aren’t they, but this one was clean but cold! The ice didn’t stop James running around to go down the slide over and over.

In the park there was a lovely boat, with a ladder and longer slide. James climbed up the ladder, and we were singing songs as he stood at the top.

Then some children who were no older than 14 arrived in the boat to smoke. No apologies were made by them, clearly smoking near a newborn, who was in the sling inside my coat, and a toddler. The boy with the lighter, obviously embarrassed, pretended he didn’t know how to use it.

We left to explore leaves on the other side of the park.

crunchy frosty autumn leaves

First James looked closely at the frosty leaves, then picked one up. It didn’t lift up in a leaf shape, but broke off because it was frozen. James felt it crumble in his hand, then picked another leaf up to put on the ground. He then thoroughly enjoyed stamping on it! We have been crunching leaves with our feet as we walk since the autumn, but wintery frozen leaves is another new sensation.
I think James is enjoying stamping on things these days!

Oh I love those little playgrounds where there are lots of little things for them to explore! Over from #WeekendBlogHop 🙂

It’s nice to visit different playgrounds from time to time, isn’t it?!

The best thing about visits to the park in winter is you usually get the playground to yourself, he looked like he was having great fun on that slide too. #Countrykids

At the moment James is loving having other children in the park with him, but there aren’t many people out these days!

sounds like a fun time but shame you had to move on. Our local recreation area has a skateboard and basketball area on the far side where the teens hang out away from where the little ones play in the playground #weekendbloghop

I think that sounds like a great idea, and exactly what that park needs!

What a great day out for you all, it must’ve been fun playing in the frosty leaves with James. That giraffe slide looks like the perfect way to while away a little ones day! It’s such a shame about the kids that were smoking, at least one of them had the decency to be slightly embarrassed. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

Looks like a great little park, shame about the teenagers though. Love frosty leaves – they are a magnet for kids aren’t they.
